Electricity generation in Armenia increased by 8% per annum in January-August 2026

ArmInfo.  In Armenia, 7,027 million kWh of electricity was generated in January-August 2026, which is 8% higher than the same period last year (versus a 7.1% increase a year ago).

According to data from the RA Statistics Committee, in August alone, electricity generation increased by 3.8% (versus a 10.2% increase in the same month in 2025), reaching 949.1 million kWh.

In particular, in January-August of this year Thermal power plants (TPPs) reversed their annual decline to a significant 49.9% increase, reaching 2,968.4 million kWh, while hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) slowed their growth to 9.4%, delivering 1,858.9 million kWh.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), which had shown growth the previous year, has now reduced its output by 45.1% year-on-year, to 939.5 million kWh.

Solar power plants (SPs) slowed their annual growth to 12.7%, delivering 1,259.6 million kWh, while wind power plants reversed their significant decline to a 19.8% increase, delivering 0.6 million kWh.

For comparison, we note that in From January to August 2025, thermal power plants demonstrated an annual decline of 19.1%, hydroelectric power plants showed a higher growth of 23.2%, and the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant then increased electricity output by 7.8%. Wind power plants then declined by 36.6%, and solar power plants demonstrated annual growth of 69.2%.
