Construction of the Kars-Igdir-Aralyk railway line continues in Turkey

ArmInfo. Construction of the Kars-Iğdır-Aralyk railway line continues in Turkey. This was announced by Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu at the "Turkey Centennial Summit in Transport and Infrastructure," organized by Albayrak Media.

According to him, this line is important for connecting with the "Zangezur Corridor" and is one of the strategic projects for strengthening Turkey's rail links with the east.

As a reminder, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously stated that Yerevan expects the border with Turkey to open soon and rail service with Turkey and Azerbaijan to be launched in parallel with the development of the regional TRIPP project. According to the Armenian government's program, the Akhurik-Turkey (on the Turkish route) and Yeraskh-Nakhichevan railway lines are planned to be restored and operational by 2031.

Armenian railway infrastructure is managed by the South Caucasus Railways (a subsidiary of Russian Railways). Nikol Pashinyan noted that Yerevan is considering transferring or revising these terms with a third party (for example, Kazakhstan, the UAE, or Qatar), citing the existence of legal grounds for changing the agreements.

Ankara emphasizes the strategic importance of developing transport links eastward and through the Diluju border crossing, linking the full opening of these links to the overall normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
