Head of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant: Nuclear energy is of strategic importance for Armenia

ArmInfo. Nuclear energy is of strategic importance for Armenia. The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) provides a significant portion of the country's electricity, supplying 30-40% of its energy resources. This was stated by Eduard Martirosyan, Director General of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant (MNPP), during his speech at the "3+3" platform discussions: Energy Cooperation as a Pillar of Peace and Security in the South Caucasus, held during Russian Energy Week in Moscow.

"We will develop relations in the energy sector with our neighboring countries – Iran, Georgia, and, in the future, Azerbaijan," Martirosyan said.

He emphasized that for Armenia, NPP safety is not only a matter of meeting technical requirements; it is a long-term responsibility to the state, society, and future generations. In this vein, he spoke about the large-scale work carried out in recent years at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, including with the aim of extending the plant's lifespan. Martirosyan recalled that the Rosatom State Corporation had assisted Armenia in this matter.

The head of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant also spoke about the development of cooperation in the energy sector within the framework of the "3+3" platform.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Ministry of Energy (https://t.me/minenergo_official) held a thematic session "The "3+3" Platform: Energy Cooperation as a Pillar of Peace and Security in the South Caucasus" As part of the International Forum "Russian Energy Week."

The high-level session was organized to develop sectoral dialogue among the countries participating in the "3+3" Regional Cooperation Platform (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Iran, and Turkey) in areas of mutual interest.

Participants included senior officials from ministries and agencies, as well as major energy sector companies. Discussions are currently underway to hold the next meetings of the heads of foreign affairs agencies in Baku or Yerevan.
