The Armenian inspection body has denied reports that Latvian authorities had detected pesticides in Armenian tea

ArmInfo. The green tea in which the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service discovered banned pesticides was of Chinese origin, packaged and imported into Latvia from Uzbekistan. This was stated in a statement by the Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia.

The inspectorate's statement recalls that information has circulated online and in the media that a pesticide banned in the European Union was detected in a batch of green tea exported from Armenia during Latvian border control.

"According to information published on the official website of the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service, 57.6 kg of green tea of Chinese origin, in which the pesticide was detected, was packaged and imported into Latvia from Uzbekistan. Therefore, the information being disseminated about the origin of this batch from Armenia is incorrect." The Food Safety Inspection Authority urges media outlets and those disseminating information on public platforms to verify the accuracy of information before publishing it, refrain from disseminating unverified information that may cause unnecessary concern to the public, and rely on official information from authorized agencies," the statement said.
