ArmInfo. The railway under the TRIPP project will be built along the same route it used during Soviet times. Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan announced this on October 28 during government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, responding to a question from Marianna Ghahramanyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition Strong Armenia faction.
The MP, in particular, asked the Deputy Prime Minister why the TRIPP route map has not yet been published and which specific settlements it will pass through.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the length of the road will be approximately 42 km. The route will run along the Araks River. Moreover, the program will not include any private lots, as the route will run along the border strip. The road will be a classic one with regional significance.
Regarding the road, Grigoryan noted that there are no specifics yet, as it must meet the parameters of a regional road. Otherwise, it will simply be uncompetitive.
As a reminder, the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project is a transit and infrastructure project in the South Caucasus that envisions the creation of a multimodal corridor through Armenia's Syunik region. The route is approximately 43 km long through Armenia's Syunik region, connecting the mainland of Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan. The project includes the restoration and construction of roads, railways, oil and gas pipelines, and fiber-optic cables. To manage the project, a joint venture is being established, with the American side holding 74% of the shares and Armenia 26% (for the first 49 years, with the option to extend for another 50 years if Armenia's stake increases to 49%). The project includes US tranches and a special fund totaling $201 million.
