Plans to introduce AWS Outposts in Armenia

ArmInfo.  Armenia is considering implementing AWS (Amazon Web Services) Outposts, which will ensure the stability of the regional cloud. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, citing the  results of the meeting of the head of the department Mkhitar  Hayrapetyan with the vice president and chief cloud officer of the world's leading cloud computing company AWS Jeff Barr.

More active RUB transactions in Armenia`s interbank foreign exchange market May 19-23, 2025

ArmInfo.  May 19 to 23, 2025, in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange market, USD transactions showed further growth, with RUB ones showing a growth and no EUR transactions effected for two months. RUB transactions showed a 75%  growth against a 30.4% decline the previous week USD transactions showed a 12% growth against 62% growth. The total amount of USD transactions exceeded that of RUB transactions 1.1-fold against 1.7-fold the previous week.

Expert: Obsession with short-term indicators to strip Armenia of  economic sovereignty

ArmInfo. The obsession of state policy with short-term indicators can lead to the loss of economic sovereignty for the country. Vahe Davtyan, a Doctor of Political Sciences and Professor, expressed this viewpoint on his Facebook page  referring to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia for the first quarter of 2025,  which  showed a 5.2% increase in the country's gross domestic product (GDP). 

Armenia`s GDP increased by 5.2%  in Q1 2025, reaching $5.4 billion

ArmInfo.  In Q1 2025, Armenia's GDP amounted to 2.118 trillion drams ($5.4 billion) in current prices. According to the RA Statistical Committee, annual GDP growth slowed from 9.2% to 5.2%. The GDP deflator index increased to 102.9% (up  from 100.8% in Q1 2024).  Specifically, in the GDP structure, the construction sector showed an acceleration of annual growth - from 12.4% to 14%, the agricultural sector - from 4.4% to 8.1%, while the trade sector experienced a slowdown in growth - from 25.1% to 5.6% and the energy complex - from 10.5% to 9.7%. The financial sector saw a high growth in the volume of services provided - by 27.5% (compared to 17.2% growth a year ago), and the information and communications  sector grew by 16.2% (compared to a 3.2% decline a year ago).

In Armenia, only  54,000 out of 900,000 declarants reported their income to the tax authorities

ArmInfo. Out of 900,000 declarants,  only about 54,000 people reported their income to the tax authorities for 2024. Approximately 23,000 of them have already received reimbursement for social expenses, as stated by  Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Eduard Hakobyan at a press conference on May 22.  According to him, Armenian citizens who made declarations have received totaling over 2 billion drams.

Economy Minister does not believe his visit to Georgia can change anything more than daily contacts with Georgian partners

ArmInfo.I do not believe that my visit to Georgia will be more effective than daily contacts with our Georgian partners regarding the delay of Armenian cargo at the Gezi terminal. Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan shared a  similar viewpoint with journalists during a briefing, when asked  about a possible resolution to the issue of Armenian trucks carrying wine and cognac products stranded for over 40 days at the Armenian-Georgian border.

Near East could be among priority markets for Armenia under tourism strategy - minister

ArmInfo. Within the framework of the new tourism strategy, the Middle East will become one of the priority markets for Armenia. This was announced to journalists by Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan during a briefing, explaining the government's decision to launch a visa-free regime for  citizens of Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to enter Armenia, as well as residents of friendly countries, including the UAE and Qatar.

Armenia to cancel entry visas for citizens of number of countries

ArmInfo.  Armenia will waive entry visas for citizens of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman and for foreigners with residence status in these countries, as well as in the United States, the EU, the Schengen Agreement countries, and the  UAE. The decision was made on May 22 at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Armenia.
