ArmInfo. The European Union is ready to provide assistance to the SMEs in Armenia, including financial support, in the fields of agriculture, tourism and information technologies. This was stated by the head of the EU delegation to Armenia Piotr Switalski during the event, timed to the discussions on the application of new business opportunities between Armenia and the EU under the CEPA.
Switalski stressed that the Armenian authorities render weak assistance to the development of small and medium business. The head of the European diplomatic mission noted that the share of SMEs in Armenia's GDP structure is about 40%, while in the EU - SME segment covers 70%. In this connection, he noted that the European Union is ready to fill in the gaps and do everything possible to increase accessibility to the markets of the EU countries for Armenian business.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and the EU for January-July 2018 exceeded $ 1 billion, which is 36.1% more than the indicator of the previous year. In particular, exports increased by 22% to $ 432.4 million with imports increasing by 47.8% to $ 633.3 million. The European Union ranked second in the list of Armenia's trade partners, with a share of 26%, somewhat behind the EEU with a share of 26.4% .
