ArmInfo. From the point of view of the law, in Armenia, besides natural monopolies, there are no other - artificial ones. The chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) of Armenia, Artak Shaboyan, told journalists this November 2.
"From the point of view of the law, none of the markets had an entrepreneur who owned 100% of the market. This is not about natural monopolies. There are business entities with a dominant position in the market and no legislation prohibits the presence of dominants." - said Shaboyan, stressing that the dominant position of an economic entity in the market can be due to quite objective reasons and, above all, good work of an entrepreneur. According to him, the most important question that the media and the public should concentrate on is whether there are any obstacles for new players to enter the market. In this context, Artak Shaboyan once again noted that there is no obstacle in the sugar market. In this market, there are about 100 entrepreneurs. All of them import sugar, including the Alex Holding company, which previously imported and produced sugar.
As for changes in the importers market after the velvet revolution, then, according to Shaboyan, their number has increased in the last 3-5 months. Imported volumes also increased. As a result, according to the head of the antimonopoly service, the share in the sugar market of the company of deputy Samvel Aleksanyan (nicknamed Lfik Samo - Ed.) "Alex Holding", which previously accounted for 98%, decreased to 78%.
