ArmInfo. The terms of the project for the construction of a modern waste disposal facility in Yerevan will be extended. The draft letter of agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is the main sponsor of the program, was approved at a meeting of the Armenian government on December 13.
According to Acting Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, within the framework of the program, it is envisaged to build in the Nubarashen community a point for disposal of solid household waste and close garbage dumps in Achapnyak and Nubarashen communities in the capital. The total cost of the project is 26 million euros, of which 16 million will be provided to Armenia in the form of a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 8 million euros in the form of a grant from the European Union and 2 million euros in the form of a grant from the European Investment Bank. As the Acting Minister stressed, the program implementation period expired on December 11, 2018; meanwhile, the construction of the landfill has not yet begun. In this regard, there is a need to extend the deadlines until July 1, 2021. By this time, Yerevan Municipality will hold a tender for the selection of the general contractor, with whom the contract will be signed. After that, within 6-12 months, the contractor will develop the design and estimate documentation and only then proceed to the construction work, which is scheduled to be completed within two years. It is planned that the recycling zone will be isolated from the soil - this will solve the problem of the penetration of dirty (waste) water into the ground, which will improve the overall environmental situation in Yerevan.

Earlier it was reported that the Municipality of Yerevan intends to come to grips with the issue of landfills. A modern waste disposal facility will be built on the outskirts of the city in the administrative district of Nubarashen: waste will be sorted, recycled; some will go to generate electricity. The item will have all the necessary infrastructures stipulated by modern international standards. -
