ArmInfo. Armenia has great potential for small cattle export. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said this at a government meeting on February 15.
However, as the head of government noted, the republic's agriculture today is not able to ensure the realization of this potential. As a result, entrepreneurs are forced to buy meat from third countries and re-export it.
In response, Advisor to the Prime Minister Aram Gharibyan said that at present the demand for lamb meat alone is about 50 thousand heads per month. Peasants are ready to sell it at a price of 2800-2900 drams per 1 kg. In total, according to the adviser, there are 650-700 thousand heads of small cattle in the republic. At the same time, in recent years there has been a tendency for farmers to expand production. Aram Gharibyan considers realistic initiatives to ensure the necessary export volumes. According to him, at present, Iran is the main market for Armenian products.
The Prime Minister offered the Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Nerses Yeritsyan to think over the possibility of lending farms for development of sheep breeding in the country.
