ArmInfo.Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated Yerevan's readiness to cooperate with Tehran in the field of energy, the IRNA Iranian state news agency informed.
"It is important that we agree on a gas price, which is a vital issue," said Pashinyan, expressing hope for further negotiations between the representatives of the two countries on this issue. He called for the development of bilateral cooperation, stating that Armenia is ready to play the role of a transit country of Iranian gas, since this cooperation may serve the interests of both countries and the region.
Armenian Prime Minister thanked the Iranian President for the warm welcome and called for the implementation of bilateral agreements.
To note, at present the relations between Armenia and Iran in the matter of gas supply are based on a barter scheme - the Iranian side supplies "blue fuel" in exchange for electricity at the rate of 3 kW / h of electricity per 1 cubic meter gas. The y-o-y volume of Iranian gas supplies to Armenia is about 300-350 million cubic meters. Iran has repeatedly offered Armenia direct supplies of its "blue fuel", but its high price held back the Armenian side. Earlier, it was stated that Tehran is ready to sell gas to Yerevan at a price of $ 160 per 1 thousand cubic meters, but at that time Armenia was buying Russian fuel at a price of $ 150. With the rise in price of Russian gas from January 1, 2019 (to $ 165 per 1 thousand cubic meters), the opportunities for direct purchases of Iranian gas become quite tangible.
