ArmInfo.A series of meetings were held at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant with the participation of representatives of OKB "GIDROPRESS" JSC.
According to the press service of the ANPP, the meetings discussed issues relating to the approaches applied to the implementation of extending the service life of the equipment of the second power unit of the ANPP, and upgrading the sprinkler system.
The meetings were attended by the leadership of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, heads of involved departments, the delegation of the Research and Development Institute "Armatom" headed by General Director Vahram Petrosyan and First Deputy Chairman of the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee of the Republic of Armenia Khachatur Khachikyan.
It should also be noted that within the framework of the support mission from the Moscow WANO Center, a socio-psychological study was conducted at the plant, the purpose of which was to assess the compliance of the leaders of the Armenian NPP with leadership qualities. Head of the Quality Assurance Department of the Armenian NPP Ruben Abrahamyan expressed readiness of the leadership of the Armenian NPP to improve the leadership qualities of managers in ensuring the safety and reliability of the plant and stressed the importance of maintaining an atmosphere of trust so that staff can openly express their opinions on the effectiveness and adequacy of management decisions .
To recall, the main objectives of the project to extend the life of the 2nd unit of the Armenian NPP are the restoration of the resource and the extension of the plant to 10 years (until 2026), increasing the level of safety and efficiency of the NPP. In the current year, it is envisaged to replace the second turbogenerator, an automatic control system at the station, to carry out repair work on cooling towers. In addition, work will be carried out to prepare for processing the dome of the reactor, which will be subjected to temperature treatment (annealing), in order to increase its strength to resist neutron fluxes. Annealing itself will be held in 2020.
All work on the project will be completed by the end of 2021. The Armenian NPP consists of two units with Soviet (Russian) VVER reactors. The first unit was commissioned in 1976, the second - in1980. In March 1989, after the Spitak earthquake, which killed 25 thousand people, the station was stopped. In November 1995, due to the acute energy crisis, the second power unit of the plant with a capacity of 407.5 MW was activated. In March 2014, the Armenian government decided to extend the life of the second power unit for 10 years - until 2026. Completion is scheduled for 2019. The government of the Russian Federation has allocated Armenia for these purposes a state export credit in the amount of $ 270 million and a grant of $ 30 million
