ArmInfo. Today, the safety level of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is at a very high level. About this corr. A source at the NPP, who wished to remain anonymous, told ArmInfo correspondent
Commenting on the appeal of the Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, to international human rights organizations with a call to suspend the operation of the Metsamor nuclear power plant in Armenia, the source noted that such demands are not new, and the plant itself is already guided by the saying: " when the dogs bark, the camels just keep walking". The situation at the Armenian NPP, according to him, has improved so much that the existing limit of 92% of thermal power has been increased to 98%. At the same time, the security system has been completely updated.
The source stressed that in late April - early May, the station will be stopped for scheduled preventive maintenance and refueling. As a result of the upcoming measures, the Armenian NPP will once again reach a qualitatively new level . T It is then that the comprehensive survey of the station will begin in order to extend its service life after 2026.
"A government decision is being prepared, which, most likely, will also reflect the sources of funding for the extension program until 2036. By this date, we should have a new nuclear power unit," the source said.
It should be noted that in October last year, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi , during his visit to the ANPP, recorded an improvement in the situation in the field of ensuring the safety of the Armenian NPP.
Meanwhile, Aliyeva's appeal to international human rights organizations, which was distributed by RIA Novosti, says that in order to avoid another catastrophe like Chernobyl and Fukushima, "the activities of the Metsamor nuclear power plant must be urgently stopped, and its radioactive waste must be taken under strict international control."
It should be noted that after the restart of the second power unit of the ANPP in 1995, no serious incident was recorded at the station..
