ArmInfo.Armenia must, within one and a half to two years maximum, decide on the further format for the development of its nuclear energy, General Director of the Rosatom state corporation Alexey Likhachev said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is currently implementing a program to re-extend the life of power unit N2. The RA government will allocate $65 million for the implementation of the project within the budget loan provided by the ANPP. The operating life of the existing power unit is planned to be extended until 2036. Work on the implementation of the program will be carried out by Rusatom Service, which is part of the Rosatom State Corporation, with which a corresponding agreement will be concluded. By this date, a new nuclear unit must be built in Armenia, discussions on the capacity of which are still ongoing. The preliminary feasibility study developed by Rosatom State Corporation for the construction of a new nuclear unit with an installed capacity of 1,200 MW is already under consideration by the Armenian side. Options offered by partners from the United States and South Korea are also being assessed.
