ArmInfo. Iran is interested in cooperation with Armenia in the mining industry, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia Hovhannes Harutyunyan and the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani stated following their meeting.
In particular, the Ambassador of Iran inquired about the possibilities of the mining industry in Armenia, the extraction of copper, gold, molybdenum, polymetals, challenges in this industry, mine operation procedures, investment instruments and existing risks.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister pointed out the high potential for cooperation with the Iranian side in the mining industry. He said that the action plan of the Mining Industry Development Strategy includes all the priorities of the institutional development of the industry, attaching importance to each of them. Harutyunyan noted that the development of the mining industry, in addition to being an important component of the economy, should not lead to environmental pollution. Speaking about sectoral priorities, the Deputy Minister highlighted geological research, since most of it was carried out during the Soviet period.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue discussions on this topic.
