Positions ofArmenian commercial banksin banking system
Analysis of the banking system of Armenia by the Agency of Rating Marketing Information (ArmInfo) on the basis of the ranking of the key balance indicators of banks showed that for Q1 2010 the first position of a universal bank remained vacant. In addition, the second position has also been vacant since Q4 2009. Positions of another six banks were down per year.
ArmInfo News Agency informs the subscribers of the quarterly bulletin “Analysis and Ranking of the Armenian Banking Systems” that starting Q2 of 2009 the commercial banks are ranked in the analysis of the banking system in terms of loro and nostro-accounts, retail lending, call liabilities, time deposits, raised and places inter-bank deposits and credits alongside with the earlier involved positions of commercial banks by total capital, assets, general provision of crediting, lending to economy sectors, investments in government securities, liabilities, raised funds, retained profit for the analyzed period of time (the given ranking is for Q1 2010).
VTB Bank (Armenia) occupied the third position rising two positions per year thanks to improvement of the positions in terms of assets, personal loans, investing in government bonds, retained profit, general obligations and raised funds. ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank and HSBC Bank Armenia shared the fourth position. ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank that is in the lead almost in terms of all indicators, was down two positions per year because of the falling positions in terms of lending to the economy, time deposits and the 10th position by investing in government bonds that has not changed over the year. HSBC Bank Armenia was up one position thanks to improvement of the positions in terms of statutory capital, investing in government bonds, placed inter-bank loans, retained profit and time deposits. Ardshininvestbank and Ameriabank shared the fifth position, in particular, Ardshininvestbank was down two positions per year (because of deteriorating positions in terms of assets, lending, including to the economy, liabilities, raised funds, time deposits, retained profit), whereas Ameriabank rose one position thanks to improving positions in the banking sector in terms of lending, including to the economy, investments in government bonds, time deposits and raised interbank loans.
The sixth position proved vacant. Armbusinessbank, Converse Bank and Unibank occurred on the seventh position. Thus, Unibank has maintained the seventh position since the same period of 2009. Converse Bank was up one position and Armbusinessbank jumped three positions. The 8th and the 9th positions proved vacant as well. Artsakhbank and INECOBANK shared the 10th position. INECOBANK has maintained this position and Artsakhbank was up two positions. Anelik Bank was up from the last year’s 13th position to the 11th position.
Armeconombank, Areximbank-GPB Group and ARARATBANK were on the 12th position. The last two banks were up two positions, whereas Armeconombank has retained its last year’s position. Armswissbank was up to the 13th position. The 14th and the 15th positions were vacant. The 16th position belonged to Byblos Bank Armenia and Armenian Development Bank. Both the banks were down by one position. Another three banks shared the 17th position: Prometey (down two positions per year), Mellat Bank (has retained the position for 2009) and Cascade Bank (up one position per year). The 18th position was vacant. ProCredit Bank was down to the 19th position from last year’s 18th position. The bank entered the Armenian market in Feb 2008. BTA Bank occupied the 20th position like a year ago.
Note: On demand of the Armenian CB, starting from the Q4 of 2006, commercial banks are making consolidated financial statements. Anelik Bank reports on its Moscow branch Anelik.RU CB Ltd., with its share in the authorized capital of the branch being 100 percent. As a result, balance sheet behavior of a number of banks does not reflect the real picture, except the one of Anelik Bank, since its consolidated balance sheets for previous years are available to ArmInfo (archive).
