Over Q2 2010 deposits of individuals in Armenia's commercial banks declined by almost 4% to $944.8 mln

Over Q2 2010 the volume of call and time deposits of individuals in Armenia's commercial banks declined by almost 4% (against almost 7% growth in Q1 2010 and 3,4% growth in Q2 2009), having totaled 347.2 bln AMD ($944.8 mln) by June 30. As compared with Q2 2009, this indicator grew by 26,2%, which is conditioned by the 3 Mar 2009 abrupt devaluation of AMD by 22%. As a result, the volume of deposits in AMD considerably grew.
According to the Ranking of Commercial Banks of Armenia prepared by the Agency of Rating Marketing Information (ArmInfo), the biggest volume of individuals' deposits as of 30 June 2010 was fixed at HSBC Bank Armenia, whose summary volume of individuals' deposits (call liabilities and time deposits) amounted to 66.6 bln AMD ($181.3 mln). Unibank ranks next – Unibank (43.6 bln AMD or $118.8 mln); Ardshininvestbank held the third place with 31.5 bln AMD or $85.8 mln; ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank held the fourth place with 30.2 bln AMD or $82.2 mln; and the fifth place was held by VTB Bank (Armenia) with 27.5 bln AMD or $74.9 mln.
The top ten includes Ameriabank - 22.4 bln AMD ($61 mln), ArmBusinessBank - 22.3 bln AMD ($60.7 mln), Converse Bank - 20.5 bln AMD ($55.7 mln), Armeconombank - 11.4 bln AMD ($31 mln) and Areximbank-Gazprombank Group - 11.2 bln AMD ($30.6 mln). As of 30 June 2010, by the share of deposits of individuals in the total liabilities, HSBC Bank Armenia and Unibank are in the lead - 61,7% and 47,1% respectively. Moreover, at HSBC Bank Armenia individuals' deposits are almost equally distributed between call and time deposits, and at Unibank they are focused on time deposits. In the specified top ten the biggest annual growth (almost thrice) was demonstrated by Ameriabank.
Over 40% of individuals' deposits fell on three banks - HSBC Bank Armenia, Unibank, and Ardshininvestbank, and the share of top five makes up about 60%. The lowest share of individuals' deposits in the banking system fell on BTA Bank - 0.2%.
Annual growth (over Q2 2010 as compared with Q2 2009) of individuals' deposits was fixed in 20 banks, and in Q2 2010 alone growth was fixed in 9 banks.
The biggest annual growth of individuals' deposits was demonstrated by Ameriabank (almost thrice, the 6th position in the banking system), and the only annual decline was fixed at Prometey Bank (by 47.8%, the 19th position).
Over Q2 2010 the biggest growth was fixed at Artsakhbank - by 14,5% (14th position), and the biggest decline was registered at Armenian development Bank and Prometey Bank - by almost 15% (15th and 19th positions respectively).
To note, in mid June 2010 the merger process of Cascade Bank and Ameriabank was completed, and the merged bank operates in the banking market under Ameriabank brand. The given ranking takes into account the consolidated data.
