Consumer lending regains the biggest share in Armenian banks' lending portfolio
ArmInfo. In Q2 2013 consumer lending regained the biggest share in the lending portfolio of Armenia's banks. In Q4 2012-Q1 2013 the leader was industry.
According to ArmInfo's Ranking of Banks of Armenia, as of June 2013 consumer lending made up 359bln AMD ($875.8mln) or 21.1% of all loans. In Jan-June 2013 the index grew by 12%. Mortgage and auto loans made up 40% of all consumer loans.
The top five in consumer lending are VTB Bank (Armenia) - 62.3%bln AMD, Ardshininvestbank - 42.9bln AMD, ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - 41.9bln AMD, Unibank - 32bln AMD and Converse Bank - 24.9bln AMD.
17 banks registered growth in consumer lending in Jan-June 2013, with Armbusinessbank recording the biggest growth - twice, Ameriabank the biggest drop - 14.3%. BTA Bank and Converse Bank had the biggest shares of consumer loans in total loan book - 41.5% and 33%, respectively.
Trade had the second biggest share in the banks' loan book - 20.7% or 352.6bln AMD ($860.1mln).
The top five here are VTB Bank Armenia - 41.6bln AMD, HSBC Bank Armenia - 39.2bln AMD, Ameriabank - 37.6bln AMD, INECOBANK - 30.7bln AMD and Araratbank - 26.4bln AMD.
16 banks registered growth in this index, with Mellat Bank recording the biggest one - 36.9%. ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank registered the biggest drop in the index - 18%.
Industry is the third with 18.8% of the total loan book or 319.6bln AMD ($799.8mln).
In Jan-June 2013 this index grew by 13.2%. The top five in this segment are Ardshininvestbank - 47.3bln AMD, Areximbank-Gazprombank Group - 36.4bln AMD, ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - 36.9bln AMD, Ameriabank - 35.7bln AMD and VTB Bank (Armenia) - 28.4bln AMD.
15 banks registered growth in the index, with VTB Bank (Armenia) recording the biggest growth - twice. Unibank and Araratbank registered the biggest drops - 20%.
Agriculture had the fourth biggest share in total lending due mostly to post-crisis activeness and the Government's agricultural loan subsidizing program involving Ardshininvestbank, Converse Bank, ACBA- Credit Agricole Bank, ProCreditBank and Artsakhbank.
In Jan-June 2013 the banks lend agriculture 110.6bln AMD ($269.9mln) or 6.5% of all of their loans, wherein ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank had 51% or 55.8bln AMD.
The other biggest creditors in this segment are Ardshininvestbank - 8.6bln AMD, VTB Bank (Armenia) - 7.2bln AMD, ProCreditBank - 5.3bln AMD and Areximbank-Gazprombank Group - 5.2bln AMD.
In Jan-June 2013 agriculture lending grew by 20.9% due to 14 banks. 7 banks registered drop in the index.
Construction fell to the fifth place with 6.3% of all loans or 108bln AMD ($263.5mln). In Jan-June 2013 lending in this segment grew by 6.3%.
The key lenders are HSBC Bank Armenia - 15.4bln AMD, Armbusinessbank - 12.7bln AMD, Areximbank-Gazprombank Group - 10.9bln AMD, Ardshininvestbank - 10.3bln AMD and Converse Bank - 8.2bln AMD.
10 banks registered growth in the index, with ProCreditBank recording the biggest growth - 84.6%. Byblos Bank Armenia and BTA Bank zeroed their construction lending portfolios. 9 banks registered growth in the index, with the biggest one recorded by Armenian Development Bank - 22.1%.
