ArmInfo. For the first time, three Armenian banks - Ameriabank, Ardshinbank, and VTB Bank (Armenia) - have been included in the RIA Rating: TOP 200 Banks in CIS, the fifth edition.
Ameriabank, Ardshinbank, and VTB Bank (Armenia) took the 166th, 179th and 181st places, respectively, in terms of assets. The Armenian banks occurred in the rating, after the number of Ukrainian and Russian banks in it decreased. In 2014, Russia lost 8 banks in the rating. Now, it is represented by 122 credit organizations. The number of the Ukrainian banks in the rating was reduced by one third. In addition, the minimum requirement of assets to enter the rating was reduced from $0,96 billion in 2014 to $0.67 billion in 2015 mainly due to the serious devaluation of the national currencies in a range of countries, including Russia. This also helped the Armenian banks enter the rating.
According to the Financial Rating of Armenian Banks prepared by ArmInfo, these three banks were the leaders in the banking system of Armenia in 2014 in terms of assets, credit exposures. In addition, these banks are the most active real sector creditors in Armenia. Ameriabank's assets increased by 8.4% to $0.84 bln or 11.7% of total assets of the Armenian banking system. Ardshinbank left Ameriabank behind by the growth rates (16.2%), but yielded to it by assets - $0.77 bln (10.7% of total assets of the banking system). VTB Bank (Armenia), the subsidiary of the Russian VTB, increased assets by 2% in 2014 to $0.76 bln (10.6% of total). Ameriabank was the leader in 2014 by the growth of credit exposures - 62.3% to $0.59bln. The bank increased lending to the economic sectors almost twice taking the first position in ArmInfo's rating.
Then goes VTB Bank (Armenia) with 17.3% growth of loans to the economy sectors to $0.56bln, of which loans to the real sector exceeded 61%, with an annual increase of the volume by 23%. Then goes Ardshinbank with a 38.5% growth of loans to $0.52bln, of which over 64% were provided to the real sector (26%). These indicators enabled the banks to retain their positions as of Jul 1 2015, despite certain slackening of the dynamics due to the economic situation, low activity of credits and reduction of the number of borrowers.
With Armenian banks entering the Rating of the TOP 200 Banks in CIS has increased the number of the countries included in the RIA Rating to ten: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Georgia,
Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.
