ArmInfo. The Armenian Government exerts efforts to improve the investment climate in Armenia, which will have a direct impact on the economic growth indices, Armenian Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan told journalists.
He stressed the need to do everything possible to attract as much investment as possible. In this light, he said, there are numerous problems having a negative effect on the investment climate and they should be removed. He added that the Government is taking steps to that end. When replying to the journalists' remark that many international organizations point out corruption and unequal competition as the key obstacle for investments, the minister said that there are many other obstacles along with corruption. "Armenia is a country at war. There are also legislative problems. There is corruption in the country but you should also admit that the anti-corruption fight has given certain results," he said. When asked what results the Government has achieved, Khachatryan said, "Now the tax and customs legislation is being reformed so that everything could depend on mechanisms, not persons. A single account mechanism is being introduced. This means that any contacts of economic entities and tax officers will be ruled out," he said.
