The issue of prolonging the term of Communal Infrastructure Programme (CIP) II, Phase 2 and clarifying the investment directions was discussed in the State Committee of Water Economy of Armenia, the Committee's press-service reports, noting that the issue was raised on February 8 during a working meeting between Committee Chairman Aram Harutyunyan and Representative of Armenian office of German Development KfW Bank Zara Chatinyan.
During the meeting the sides discussed problems related to ensuring with water about 570 communities of Armenia, which are out of service of water undertakers, as well as creating a property management and investments agency within the system of the committee and a number of issues related to the results of conducting independent audit on the water undertakers. At the same time the issue of expected assistance from the bank to the strategic program of development of Armenia's water system was raised. In his turn the Chairman of the State Committee expressed interest in the soonest launch of the program on irrigation of out of service communities and its efficient implementation.
During the meeting an agreement was reached on keeping to deadlines of the program implementation and achievement of the set results.
To note, on May 14 2014 an agreement was signed on financing of Infrastructure Programme II, Phase 2 by European structures. The project costs 73 million EUR, including 30 million EUR provided by KfW Bank in terms of a loan. European Investment Bank provided another 2.5 million EUR and KfW Bank provided 15 million EUR in terms of a grant of the EU Neighborhood Investment Facility. 10 million EUR of the total amount of the project will be used to restore the systems of water supply and irrigation in the rural areas, 2 million EUR will be spent on construction of the sewage water cleaning systems in Armavir, and 3 million - on payment for the management contract with four water supply organizations: ArmWaterCanal, Lori-Watercanal, Shirak-Watercanal and Nor-Akunq.
To recall, KfW representative office has been functioning in Armenia since October 1998, and the bank's investments in Armenia's economy have totaled more than 600 mln EUR till now.
