ArmInfo. Armenian government will allocate 500,900 EURO for the preparation of papers for the construction of Vedi reservoir. The relevant decision was made today. The funds will be provided for drawing up the package of documents aimed at launching construction as soon as possible.
To recall, the French Development Agency (AFD) will lend EUR 75 million to Armenia for construction of a reservoir in Vedi. The dam will be 85m high and the capacity will be 29 mln cu m. The reservoir will irrigate an area of 3.2 thsd hectares. The construction will last for nearly 4 years. The implementation of the project will make it possible to mitigate the problem of water shortage in Ararat Valley, as well as to switch from mechanical irrigation to gravity
systems. As famous independent expert on water resources Qnarik Oganesyan told ArmInfo's correspondent, due to exploitation of the water reservoir it will be possible to irrigate lands, which are on the edge of degradation. She noted that as a result of the project implementation microclimate of the adjacent territories will change, air humidity will raise and social-economic conditions of the local population will significantly improve. She recalled that along with the Vedi reservoir, the government plans to construct Kaps, Yeghvard and Selav-Mastara reservoirs in the upcoming years.
