In Jan-May 2016 economic activity in Armenia grew by 5.5% versus Jan-May 2015

ArmInfo. In Jan-May 2016 versus Jan-May 2015, the economic activity in Armenia grew by 5.5% amid 20.1% growth in exports. In May 2016 versus May 2015, the economic activity rose by 5.5% and in May 2016 versus April 2016 it rose by 6.6%.

By the preliminary data of the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in Jan-May 2016 industry grew by 8.8% versus Jan-May 2015, services - by 8.6%, agriculture - by 4.7%, while trade dropped by 0.1%, construction - by 7.9%, and power engineering - by 1.9%.

In Jan-May 2016 versus Jan-May 2015, the consumer price index dropped by 3.1%; in May 2016 versus May 2015, the index fell by 1.9%, and in May 2016 versus April 2016 it rose by 1.7%.

In May 2016, agriculture rose by 52.2%, construction - by 43.8%, services and trade - by 6% and 5.3%, respectively. In the meantime, industry and power engineering dropped by 3.9% and 17.5%, respectively.

As compared with May 2015, industry grew by 9.1%, services - 5.8%, agriculture - by 5.8% and trade - by 1%, while construction and power engineering fell by 9% and 21.7%, respectively.

In Jan-May 2016, trade amounted to 774.3 bln AMD ($1.6 bln) in absolute terms, industry - 533.5 bln AMD ($1.1 bln), services - 468.1 bln AMD ($964.8 mln), agriculture - 175.2 bln AMD ($361.03 mln), construction - 90.4 bln AMD ($186.3 mln). In Jan-May 2016, the electric power output made up 3097.3 mln kWh (530.7 mln kWh in May alone).

In Jan-May 2016, the foreign trade turnover of Armenia amounted to 918.3 bln AMD ($1892.7 mln), with a 6.8% year-over-year growth.  Exports grew by 20.1% to 318.6 bln AMD ($656.9 mln), while imports rose by 0.9% to 599.7 bln AMD ($1235.8 mln). In May 2016 alone, the foreign trade turnover dropped by 7.2%, with the imports and exports falling by 9.5% and 3%, respectively. As compared with May 2015, the foreign trade turnover grew by 2.1%, with exports rising by 8.4% and imports dropping by 1.1%.

In May 2016, the average AMD/USD exchange rate was 478.37 AMD/$1, and in Jan-May 2016 - 485.13 AMD/$1 versus 480.25 AMD/$1 in May 2015 and 477.22 AMD/$1 in Jan-May 2015.
