ArmInfo. Armenian Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan met with US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills on August 8.
As the press office of the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture has told ArmInfo, the minister stressed that the recent cooperation between the Armenian Ministry and the US Embassy has been effective enough. "With the support of the US Embassy and USAID, the ongoing programs in Armenia have a big positive effect on development of the agrarian production in various fields," Karapetyan said. In this context, the minister presented the positive indices registered in the agrarian sector over the past few years. He also pointed at the priorities of the sector. As regards the problems, Karapetyan stressed the need to plant quick-growing orchards, create greenhouse facilities, introduce cost-saving fish farms, as well as drop irrigation systems and anti-hail systems.
Ambassador Mills, in turn, praised the cooperation between the US Embassy and Armenia in the agrarian sector. He said that the US gives high priority to the partnership between the US Embassy and the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture. Agriculture is considered to ensure the biggest employment in the republic. The US Ambassador is convinced that in order to ensure economic development in Armenia, it is necessary to focus on the big potential in the agrarian sector. The diplomat noted that joint efforts can help Armenian producers enter new markets.
