ArmInfo. Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received today Russian Railways OJSC Vice President Andrei Starkov and South Caucasus Railway CJSC Director General Sergey Valko, the press-service of the Armenian government informs.
The Prime Minister welcomed the activities of South Caucasus Railway CJSC in Armenia, noting that the Company helps develop the railway sector in our country with a dynamic growth registered in transportation services. Karen Karapetyan said the Armenian government is interested in successful activities of Armenia-based entities and is ready to intensify its efforts on expansion of cooperation.
On behalf of the management of Russian Railways CJSC, Andrei Starkov felicitated Karen Karapetyan on his appointment to the office of Prime Minister and wished him fruitful work. Mr. Starkov briefed the Premier on South Caucasus Railway's ongoing activities, achievements and development programs.
The parties took the opportunity to discuss cooperation development prospects and South Caucasian Railway's future activities. Prime Minister Karapetyan attached importance to the initiation and implementation of regional programs to promote communication and tourism in the region. In this context, the sides exchanged views on the development and modernization of transport infrastructure, increase of freight and passenger traffic, service accessibility and operational efficiency, as well as on other issues of mutual of interest.
South Caucasus Railway CJSC is the 100% subsidiary of Russian Railway OJSC and the concessional manager of Armenian Railway CJSC under the agreement signed on 13 February 2008. The agreement was signed for 30 years and may be prolonged for 10 more years.
