ArmInfo. French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-Francois Charpentier and Armenia's Minister of Agriculture Ignatiy Arakelyan held a meeting on October 17. During the meeting the Ambassador expressed readiness to deepen bilateral relations between Armenia and France in the field of agriculture.
The press-service of the Ministry informs that the French Ambassador invited Arakelyan to participate in the regular session of Armenian-French Forum on Decentralized Cooperation in December this year, during which issues related to agricultural sector will be discussed too.
The Minister of Agriculture noted in his turn that he highly assesses cooperation with France. "In the framework of joint programs France provides great support to us in developing agriculture", the Minister added. At the same time he considered that it is possible to expand cooperation in founding intensive gardens, greenhouses, developing farmer cooperatives and in other fields. At the same time the Agriculture Minister noted that special attention should be paid to those areas of agricultural sector, which will contribute to increasing profit of small and medium farmer enterprises.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, trade turnover between Armenia and France in Jan-Aug 2016 totaled $31.6 mln, with 32.3% y-o-y decline. Particularly, export totaled $2.3 mln dropping 33.9% y-o-y amid fall of import by 32.2% to $29.3 mln.
