ArmInfo. There is no information about the intentions of AERTC to participate in nuclear projects in Armenia. Deputy Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan told ArmInfo's correspondent that this news is interesting, but nothing is known about the company's intentions.
Earlier in a talk to ArmInfo's correspondent Dr. Sam M. Saeed, Chief Technology Officer of AERTC, stated that the company is interested in participating in nuclear projects in Armenia. According to Saeed the package of proposals related to construction of new nuclear unit in Armenia is currently on the table of negotiations. Sam Saeed assured that the proposals envisage both modernization of the running power unit using new technologies and construction of the new NPP. The project implementation will be possible within framework program till 2020. To note, Rusatom Service part of Rosatom, implements the project of modernization of the second unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant.
To recall, in March 2014, the Armenian Government adopted a decision to extend the lifetime of the unit No.2 of the NPP in view of the delay with the construction of the new power unit. At the current stage, the Lifetime Extension Project of unit No.2 of Armenian NPP is being implemented with the participation of Rusatom Service's specialists. The NPP will be modernized at the expense of the Russian $270 mln loan and the Russian $30 mln grant funds. The project will be implemented by the late 2019.
