ArmInfo. In Jan-Sept 2016, electric power generation in Armenia dropped by 6.5% versus the same period of 2015, and totaled 5396.1 million kWh, the National Statistical Service of Armenia reports. In September alone, the electric power output fell by 7.4% to 591.3 mln kWh.
In Jan-Sept 2016, the thermal power plants decreased electric power output by 28% to 1332.5 mln kWh. The hydropower plants increased generation by 6.1% to 1856.3 million kWh. The electricity generated by the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant made up 2206.2 million kWh (up 1.6% versus Jan-Sept 2015). Over the period under review, 51.3 thsd GJ of thermal power was generated (43.6% y-o-y decline). Other sources generated 1 mln kWh of electric power (down 52.2% versus Jan-Sept 2015).
To note, in 2015 electric power generation in Armenia grew only by 0.6% and totaled 7798.2 mln kWh and in December alone - by 9%. In 2015 thermal power plants decreased the output by 14.8%, while the hydropower plants increased the electricity output by 10.7%. The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant increased the output by 13.1%. Thermal power generation grew by 10.4%.
