Armenia is intended to get as much funds as possible from the amount of 25 bln Euros, provided by European Union within the program of "EU Water Initiatives Plus" to the countries of Eastern Partnership, Artsvik Minasyan, the Nature Protection Minister of Armenia stated during his conversation with journalists on December 13.
He mentioned that 6 member countries of the Eastern partnership participate in the project, and the most part of assets will be provided to the country which will show the highest level of activity. Minasyan accentuated that the grant assets will be directed to the improvement of the water resources management system and to the regulatory modifications in the field.
Currently we are in the process of active work, including the reservoirs, water resources management - particularly in respect of estimation and distribution," the minister stated, mentioning that the implementation such projects will let to use the water resources more effectively. "We hope that with the help of this project we will be able to use 3 reservoirs from 6 existing in Armenia," Minasyan noted, mentioning that appropriate plan on Akhuryan reservoir is already submitted for the governmental approval. In this context he mentioned, that simultaneously with the works on reservoirs utilization plans, there is a need to develop the rivers frameworks. The Minister mentioned that Armenia expects a support in this aspect also. "We need an implementation of serious programs in this aspect to improve the effective utilization of rivers water," Minasyan stated.
In his turn, Ambassador Peter Svitalskij, the head of EU delegation in Armenia, thinks that the cooperation in the sector of water resources utilization is an important part of cooperation between Yerevan and Brussels. In this context he mentioned that Armenia and EU are in negotiations process in respect to Cooperation Framework Agreement, with a reference to the Water Initiative project. "This project is aimed at the improvement of the water supply system, which will affect positively the quality of environment and the welfare of people," the Ambassador mentioned.
