ArmInfo. Citizens of Russia and Armenia get an opportunity to travel to each other's countries with national identity cards. The relevant amendments to the agreement on mutual visits of the citizens with national identity cards were signed along with a number of other documents during Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan's official visit to Russia.
To recall, the decision to permit the citizens of Russia to travel to Armenia with national identity cards was taken at the Armenian Government's sitting on January 19. Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said that this would foster tourism development. "It is hard to say how much the inflow of tourists to Armenia will grow, but it is obvious that the inflow will increase," Kocharyan said. He said that the agreement will come into affect before the summer holidays. "I think after the relevant procedures at the local and interstate levels, the citizens of Russia will be able to travel to Armenia with national identity cards," Kocharyan said.
To note, during a joint briefing with ex-prime minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan on 7 April 2016, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia is willing to implement the Armenian Government's initiative on the use of Russian national identity cards for traveling to Armenia.
