ArmInfo. The Minister of Economic Development and Investment of Armenia Suren Karayan visited Yerevan "Armleather" tannery on February 15, where got acquainted with the production process, current situation and the plans for future.
According to plant's Director Executive Ashot Gomtsyan there are 100 employees working currently. In three months when the raw material processing will be finished, the company will increase the number of employees. According to investment program the number of employees will increase to 700. "The company plans to start production of the product shoes, gloves, bags, belts and other", said Ashot Gomtsyan.
The press service of Armenian Ministry of Economy told ArmInfo, that on Karayan's proposal, the company was also visited by representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, to on-site to discuss possible assistance to the plant in the second phase of UNIDO program to improve the competitiveness of export-oriented industries in Armenia due to modernization and access expand to the market. The second phase of the program started the day before, during which it is planned to focus on the promotion of the production of leather goods. As stated by the Minister, following visit to the plant will be after three months, when completed the entire cycle of treatment of the leather in the enterprise.
To note, on the eve of the second stage of the UNIDO program (2-year pilot phase) "Improving the competitiveness of export-oriented industries in Armenia due to modernization and access to markets."The first phase started in 2014, which was attended by 8 companies, united under one brand "5900BC", for the development and production of the joint collection of fashionable clothes. The successful start of the program UNIDO allowed to proceed to the implementation of phase 2 with the involvement of enterprises for the production of leather goods and shoes, while the first phase as a focal sector textile industry was presented. UNIDO program is aimed at improving the technical and production potential producers and the improvement of the design of the finished product.
