A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Tourism Development Fund and the State Committee for Tourism of the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia on March 17, to promote the development of domestic and incoming tourism, as well as to consistently improve the competitiveness of the sphere.
As the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade told ArmInfo, within the framework of the memorandum signed, the sides intend to work towards a proper demonstration of the Armenian tourist potential at international exhibitions. It is also planned to diversify the local tourist product, including, by organizing the festival of Armenian brandy.
To note, in 2016 the tourist sector of Armenia experienced 5.7% growth: 2.867 million foreign citizens came to the republic, 1.259 million of which were for tourism purposes. The number of Iranian tourists increased by 30% in 2016, and Russian by 2.3%, against the decline by 6% a year earlier. By 2020 the State Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Armenia intends to double the influx of foreign tourists to Armenia.
