ArmInfo. Armenia may become a member of Asian Infrastructure Investments Bank (AIIB). According to the information of the Prime agency referring to the press office of the bank, first from the moment of official start AIIB approved the applications of 13 countries to join the bank, with Armenia among those.
New prospective members will officially join the Bank after having all the procedures in their home countries complete and the official first fee paid. To mention, Armenia first expects to get from ABII a loan for Iran-Armenia railway construction. The projects cost is estimated at USD 3,5 bln. Yerevan accepts this project as an opportunity to participate to the program of Silk Road Economic Zone, costing USD 15 bln. The project will connect the Far East with Central Asia and Europe. The Idea of establishment of this transportation, energy and trade corridor between the countries of Central, Southern Asia and Europe has been voiced first in Kazakhstan in 2013, About 70 countries and international entities take participation in the project.
The Asian Bank of Infrastructure Investments (AIIB) is an international financial organization, offered to be established by China. The main objective of AIIB is the improvement of financial cooperation in Asian- Pacific Region and funding of infrastructure projects in Asia- from airports and roads construction to raising communication units. After the statements about AIIB successful start Jacob Lew, American Finance Minister warned that entities like World Bank and International Monetary Fund may stop being trustworthy.
