ArmInfo. Investments for the implementation of the reclamation system in Armenia, according to preliminary estimates, will pay off in the context of 4-5 years. The Chairman of the State Water Management Committee of Armenia Arsen Harutyunyan, noting that the payback period will depend on technologies and mechanisms applied, expressed this opinion during the press conference on April 27.
"From the point of view of business, I opposed the introduction of this system. However, the whole world is going to this, and being interested in increasing the volume of water use as head of the State Committee, I understand that the transition to a unified melioration system will in time facilitate the burden of the state," he stressed.
According to him, the irrigation system will be implemented in Armenia within the framework of 2 pilot programs. In particular, Harutyunyan noted the construction of the Vedi reservoir in the Ararat region, which will contribute to an increase in the area of irrigation land by 500 hectares. And the second irrigation system will be implemented in the Aramvir region (Baghramyan Norakert community). "The community has already completed the construction of a water pipe, which will increase the area of irrigation land by another 500 hectares," he said.
He said, there are about 180 thousand hectares of lands in Armenia in need of irrigation, of which only 50% (90 hectares) are irrigated. Until the end of the year the Committee plans to increase irrigated land to 100 hectares.
