ArmInfo. In Armenia, it is planned to establish a Road Fund, which will finance repair of roads. Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies of Armenia Vahan Martirosyan told in a press conference in Yerevan on May 5.
According to him, the budget financing of this program is not sufficient. Annually about 7.5 billion AMD are allocated for these purposes, while at least 90 billion AMD are needed. Budget funds in winter are sent to ensure the passability of vehicles, snow cleaning, and in the summer time to repair roads of interstate and republican importance. This year, it is envisaged to allocated 5 bln AMD for the summer period, most of which will be used for repair of the Yerevan-Sevan highway.
The Road Fund with the participation of the state and the private sector will help to solve the problem of road rehabilitation. It is not excluded, the minister continued, that the Fund will be replenished with the funds received from the state budget from the application of property tax from vehicles.
Asked by ArmInfo about the possibility of transferring highways of interstate and republican importance to trust management, which will allow solving the problem once and for all, Vahan Martirosyan emphasized that in this case it is a question of implementing a system of toll roads. "At this stage, we are considering the possibility of implementation of a paid system in the south, towards Iran," the minister said.
