Tourism State Committee: the  possibility of assigning the status of natural monuments under the extreme tourism territories

ArmInfo. Zoning is concentrated on cultural and historical monuments of Armenia, but today there is a need to zone also territories suitable for extreme tourism. The head of State Committee for Tourism of Armenian  Ministry of Economic Development and Investments Armenia Zarmine Zeituntsyan expressed such opinion  on June 7 during discussions with the representatives of the extreme tourism of Armenia.

"Today, the development of extreme tourism is at the center of the attention of the authorities, "she said, adding that after today's discussions a working group will be created that will, in set  time, resolve the accumulated and current problems in this segment of the tourism industry.

In this regard, Armenian Deputy Minister of Environment Protection Khachik Hakobyan came out with a suggestion  to assign the territories that are suitable for extreme tourism, the status of natural monuments.  According to the deputy head of the department, it is quite possible to implement it together  with the Institute of Natural Monuments, which, on the basis of conducted research, has the authority to assign such status. "This is the shortest and most effective way," he stressed. In case the territories do not meet the established criteria and therefore do not fall under the status of "natural monuments", Hakobyan proposes to create a Council that will conduct further research of these territories.
