ArmInfo. By organizing the Armenian-Tajik business forum Armenia plans to increase the volume of trade turnover between Yerevan and Dushanbe, which today do not reflect the real potential of economic cooperation between the two countries, Hayk Mirzoyan, Director of Export Development Fund of Armenia said in the fields of business forum on 14 June in Yerevan.
According to him, the Armenian business showed a very active interest in the first Armenian-Tajik business forum - the Armenian side is represented on the forum by more than 130 companies. Tajik business is represented by 29 companies from the spheres of textile industry, jewelry business and production of construction materials. The Tajik side, as Mirzoyan noted, is also interested in banking and tourism.
According to the representative of the DFA, Yerevan has quite high expectations from the business forum that is taking place, since the meeting of the business of the two countries is the first and has a fact-finding character. The current event, as Hayk Mirzoyan noted, aims to increase unreasonably low rates of trade turnover between the two countries. "With the help of the forum, we provide the private sector of the countries with an opportunity to find the fringes of cooperation and expand trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Tajikistan," he said. On the eve of the visit of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to Yerevan, the third meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation started. Today, the first Armenian-Tajik business forum is held. The agenda of the events includes discussion of prospects for cooperation in the fields of engineering, energy, agriculture, health, science and education, culture, transport and communications. It should be noted that according to the statistical data for 2015-2016, which the Ministry of Economic Development and Investment shared on the eve, the annual trade turnover between Yerevan and Dushanbe was fixed at $ 360-390 thousand. Armenia exported mainly medicines used in veterinary medicine and jewelry to Tajikistan.
Today, according to the DFA, referring to the data of the Armenian customs, last year Armenia exported goods to Tajikistan worth $ 663.8 thousand - mainly medicines, acrylic polymers, used clothes, construction tools for and jewelry. Imports in trade volumes are not fixed.
