Armenian government On August 3, approved the criteria for determining the list of priority countries for the development of economic diplomacy and assessing the effectiveness of this activity.
As Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan stated, presenting the document, in addition to the list of 10 priority countries indicated in the document, there is also another one, on the basis of which the list will be expanded in the future. Among the approved evaluation priorities are the presence of a large Armenian diaspora in the host country, the opportunities of the diplomatic mission, the existing investment and trade and economic potential of the country, as well as the background in terms of partnership with neighboring countries.
Already after the government session in a conversation with journalists, the first deputy minister of economic development and investments Garegin Melkonyan noted that several documents are being approved on the submitted package. First of all, a list of countries is approved, as well as some criteria for the further organization of work in terms of setting tasks for diplomatic missions. In addition, it is established on the basis of which approaches it is necessary to select priority countries.
According to the Deputy Minister, for the first time, the economic aspect of the republic's foreign policy activity is so accentuated. Today, as Melkonyan noted, Armenia has about 50 diplomatic missions abroad. Unfortunately, not everyone has trade missions or at least diplomats with knowledge of the economy or relevant experience. "This initiative is aimed at boosting economic potential in all Armenian diplomatic missions," he said. To note, Russia, the United States, China, Iran, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Lebanon and the Benelux countries are among the priority countries.
