According to Zarmine Zeituntsyan, chairman of the State Tourism Committee, Armenia hopes to increase the number of tourists from the Russian Federation by 30-50% by allowing the Russians to enter the country by internal passport in 2017. According to her, in 2016, more than 450,000 tourists from Russia visited Armenia. "The record was in 2014, almost 470 thousand tourists from Russia, and in 2012 - 350 thousand." Recall that Russian citizens from February 23, 2017 can visit Armenia on internal civil passports. The corresponding document was signed following the official visit of the Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan to Russia in late January. The procedure according to which Russian citizens can come to Armenia on internal passports operates only at Zvartnots (Yerevan) and Shirak (Gyumri) airports, because Georgia does not accept Russian tourists on internal passports, and as a consequence they can not to visit Armenia by land transport.
