ArmInfo. Issues related to Armenia's international obligations in the implementation of the general system of preferences in trade with the European Union (GSP +) were discussed on September 22 at a working meeting with Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan.
According to the press service of the Armenian government, the Prime Minister was informed about the work done, interim results and further steps. The Prime Minister gave a number of orders on the continuation of the systemic work and its implementation in the established terms.
Armenia, from January 1, 2009 is included in the list of countries that have received the GSP + regime from the European Union. In 2006-2008, Armenia used the EU's Generalized System of Preferences, which granted preferential access to EU markets in the form of a zero duty for 3,300 products and reduced tariffs for the other 3,900 items.
On December 9, 2008, the European Commission adopted a resolution according to which Armenia was given a special incentive for sustainable development and efficiency (GSP + 1) within the framework of the GSP Regulation 2009-2011, which has been extended and is still in force. This allows Armenia to export to the EU 7,200 items of goods without any fees. In order to maintain these extended benefits during the term of the GSP Regulation Armenia must implement the provisions of 27 major international conventions in the field of sustainable development and good governance.
