ArmInfo. On October 10, the School of Programming opened in the Gyumri Technological Center - a joint project of Yandex and the Enterprise Incubator Foundation. In the School pupils of 9-11 classes will get acquainted with programming and will discover the prospects of work in the field of information technologies.
Applications for the School were submitted by 99 schoolchildren, 27 people were successfully tested and interviewed. Classes started on October 4 and will last one academic year. Students will get acquainted with the basics of programming using the example of Python. This is a common and fast-developing language that uses many services, for example Yandex.Taxi, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
"Now young people in big cities have many opportunities to learn programming from an early age, but in regions it is much more difficult. Having opened the School in Vanadzor, we saw with what enthusiasm children learn, and how in a few months they create their first programs. We hope that our new school in Gyumri will help local high school students to master the specialty that becomes the most popular in the world," said the head of the Yandex.Taxi international development service, Mushegh Sahakyan.
"Several months ago, the Yandex Programming School started successfully in Vanadzor. The important thing is that the organizers decided to implement the program also in Gyumri, since it is important for our country to make modern programming languages available free of charge, especially for schoolchildren from the regions. Taking into account the successes in Vanadzor, we are sure that we will have positive results in Gyumri too. In the course of cooperation, we attach great importance to the participation of the private sector, which will contribute to the sustainable development of the project," said Bagrat Yengibaryan, director of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation.
"This program is very important for Shirak region, because schoolchildren will have one more opportunity to study programming for free and will be able to join the IT sphere. It is also important that the teachers selected specialists from Gyumri who will teach using the experience of Yandex specialists," said Amalya Egoyan, Business Development Manager of the Gyumri Technological Center.
In Russia Yandex cooperates with schools and universities and develops additional education programs. Since 2007 in Yandex, the School of Data Analysis is working - two-night evening courses, where they teach computer training, computer vision, text analysis and other disciplines. In 2014 Yandex, together with the Higher School of Economics, opened the Computer Science Faculty.
