ArmInfo. Within the framework of the UNDP rural tourism development program financed by Russia, 60 entirely new tourist destinations will be created on the map of Armenia. This was told at a press conference on October 20 by Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP (United Nations Development Program) in Armenia Dmitry Maryasin.
In particular, he noted that the main problem of agrotourism development in the country is the lack of willingness of rural residents to take on the role of guides speaking at least in 2 languages. In this regard, the UN representative noted that soon a center for training specialists in agro-tourism will open in Ijevan. In addition to training guides, he stressed that the center will be able to train entrepreneurs who want to open a business in the tourism sector.
"Today, the countryside of Armenia is largely not ready to receive tourists. However, we intend to help in changing the current situation through the development of infrastructures, the provision of necessary equipment, training, etc. This is not "high-tech," but from the point of view of Armenia's economic development is a very important issue, "he stressed.
