ArmInfo. The volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in January-September 2017 increased by 40.7% to 19 940.8 thousand tons by the same period of the previous year. Out of them, 16,700.9 thousand tons (83.7% of the total volume) account for road transport, which increased by 48.5% year-on-year, the National Statistical Service said.
According to the statistical data, rail freight traffic for the reporting period increased by 4.4% - to 1 976.8 thousand tons. Air transportation also increased - by 48.7% - to 17.1 thousand tons. The main pipeline supplied 1,246 thousand tons of natural gas, which is 22.1% more than the same period last year. The freight turnover increased by 17.2% to 3,023.4 million tons-km.
Passenger traffic for the reporting period decreased by 3.3% - to 148,472.6 thousand people,which, by and large, was due to a 4.1% decrease in road transport - to 130,539.3 thousand people. At the same time, the transportation of passengers by electric transport increased by 1.5% to 15 729.2 thousand people, railway - by 2.2% to 282 thousand people and air - by 24.1% - to 1,922.1 thousand people. Passenger traffic increased by 1.5% - to 1971.2 million passengers-km.
