ArmInfo. On November 21, Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in the Republic of Armenia Lucas Gasser. The parties discussed prospects for deepening economic ties between the two countries.
As the press service of the government reports, Karen Karapetyan noted the high level of political dialogue between the countries, stressing that Switzerland is one of the priority economic partners among the countries of Europe. The head of the Armenian government noted with satisfaction the great progress in terms of economic cooperation between the countries during 2017. According to him, for Jan-Sep 2017, the volume of exports in comparison with the same period in 2016 increased by 3.6 times. As Karen Karapetyan noted, thanks to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) with Switzerland, the Armenian- Swiss economic cooperation, which has great potential, will raise bilateral ties to a new level.
The head of the Armenian Government stated that the Armenian side is ready to develop multi-sphere cooperation with Switzerland to attract the country's capital to Armenia. At the same time, according to him, Armenia can become an interesting platform for the Swiss business in terms of entering the markets of the EAEU, as well as IRI through the deployment of activities in the Meghri FEZ.
Ambassador Lucas Gasser also expressed satisfaction with the emerging positive dynamics in the sphere of economic cooperation. At this stage, as he pointed out, new investors visit Armenia to get acquainted with Armenia's investment climate. According to him, a number of Swiss companies use the Armenian site to enter the markets of third countries. He also noted that the FEZ in Meghri may be of interest to business circles in Switzerland.
The interlocutors also touched upon the establishment of direct air communication between Armenia and Switzerland, ways to stimulate tourism, interaction within the FEZ, the possibility of developing cooperation through joint business forums.
