ArmInfo. The volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in 2017 increased by 36.9% (against growth of 85.3% in 2016), making 28 046.7 thousand tons. Of these, 23 597.5 thousand tons (84.1% of the total) accounted for road transport, which increased by 45.2% year-on- year, the National Statistical Service said.
According to statistical data, rail freight traffic for the year increased by 1.1% - up to 2 640 thousand tons. Air transportation also increased - by 22.4% - to 22.4 thousand tons. The main pipeline supplied 1,786.8 thousand tons of natural gas, which is 11.3% more than in 2016. Freight turnover increased by 9.7% in 2017 - up to 4 256.3 million tons/km.
Passenger transportation for the reporting year decreased by 2.8%, against the decline of 1.3% a year earlier. In particular, motor transportation decreased by 3.8% to 175,732.9 thousand people. Transportation of passengers by electric transport, on the contrary, increased by 3.1% - up to 21 844.7 thousand people. Passenger transportation by rail increased by 4.2% to 366.8 thousand people, and by air - by 20.6% to 2,553.8 thousand people. Passenger traffic increased in 2017 by 2.6% - up to 2 665.5 million passengers- km.
