ArmInfo. The Wine Growing and Wine Foundation of Armenia (VWFA) will support Armenian winemakers in a dispute with CJSC "Karas Vines" (Tierras De Armenia). Direcrtor Zaruhi Muradyan informed ArmInfo about this.
"Companies have turned to us for help. And in this case, the Foundation intends to protect the rights and interests of those winemakers who use Karas (large jugs) to make wines. Since in the international arena we position ourselves as a country with the oldest traditions of winemaking, namely, we manufacture and maintain wines in karas. And today, winemakers are forbidden to use this word, thereby depriving us of the opportunity to present the history of the creation of Armenian wines to the consumer, "she said.
Muradyan said that the Fund had developed a bill, which proposed amendments on the part of wine labeling. According to her, the draft law provides for the right of winemakers, who use karas, to use this word on the etiquette of their products. At the moment, the bill is in the hands of entrepreneurs whose rights were violated in the case with "Karas Wines". She noted that after the negotiations and coordination, the document will be submitted to the RA government for consideration. "I hope we succeed in this endeavor to ensure a positive outcome for winemakers," concluded the head of VWFA. CJSC Karas Wines (Tierras De Armenia) requires the use of the word "karas" on the labels of other wine producers. To this end, the company sues the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of the Republic of Armenia in order to obtain removal from registration of those brands of Armenian wines that use the word "Karas" on their labels. on the etiquettes of other manufacturers misleads the consumer>, - said in the claim filed by "Karas Wines". Today the case is under consideration in the Administrative Court of Appeal of the Republic of Armenia. It should be noted that the company of CJSC "Karas Wines" (Tierras De Armenia) belongs to the Argentinean businessman of Armenian origin Eduardo Ernekyan.
