Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan during the meeting held in the Government on issues of civil aviation noted the importance of developing a program for the development of small aircraft. On February 7, the head of the government presented the results of the implementation of the priority tasks by the General Department of Civil Aviation(GDCA) and the implementation of activities in 2017, as well as tasks for 2018.
According to the press service of the Government, according to the chairman of the Central Administration of the State Archives Sergey Avetisyan, the programs and events scheduled for 2017 have been fully implemented. Since December 7, 2017, the Free Airspace Concept has been introduced in Armenia, which will enable airlines to use short routes and significantly improve flight efficiency.
The procedure for granting permits for air transportation by local foreign airlines has been simplified and modernized. In order to improve the business environment, the aviation regulator introduced an online application system.
The head of government stressed the importance of developing small aircraft. Given the presence of the free economic zone "Meghri" on the border with Iran, he noted the need to launch flights in the direction of Meghri. According to Sergey Avetisyan, relevant studies have already been conducted to assess conditions in the country's small airports.
Karen Karapetyan also noted the importance of implementing steps aimed at developing Yerevan as a transit destination for international airlines.
