ArmInfo. Armenia and the United States have confirmed their readiness to develop and deepen effective cooperation. This was stated during the meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan with US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Brigitte Brinks.
According to the press service of the Government, the prime minister suggested discussing the feasibility of implementing business programs in various fields, including IT, the agricultural sector, etc., noting that he is satisfied with the course of cooperation in the energy, high technologies, and tourism. In addition, Karapetyan stressed that the government will continue to implement reforms in all areas.
Ms. Brinks, for her part, noted that the US is actively working with Armenian entrepreneurs in the direction of deepening and strengthening cooperation. At the same time, she added that at today's meeting with representatives of the business community, there have been many positive comments on changes and progress in the field of tax and customs administration.
According to the source, the parties discussed issues related to the second meeting of the Armenian- American Council scheduled for March. In this vein, Bridget Brinks stressed: "We are looking forward to concrete ideas on ways to promote our economic partnership."
In the context of steps to improve the business environment, the Prime Minister and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State exchanged views on reforms in the judicial system, public administration, anti-corruption measures, and other issues related to the prospects for bilateral economic cooperation.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and the USA in 2017 was $ 204.8 million, with an annual growth of 68.2%. At the same time, exports increased by 76.5% to $ 68.5 million, imports - by 64.3% to $ 136.3 million.
