ArmInfo. Starting from March 4, passengers on the Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan route start serving the new electric train EP2D, recently purchased by the South Caucasus Railways from the Russian company Transmashholding. The first test flight of the new lineup was successfully held on February 27.
As it became known to ArmInfo, Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan will become the first passenger of the new electric train.
According to the press service of SCRW, the electric train will run weekly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the express train format, without intermediate stops. The time of the electric train is 1 hour 59 minutes. The new team will work twice a day: at 10:00 departing from Yerevan to Gyumri, at 16:55 - in the opposite direction.
For Armenia, a two-wagon modification of the electric train was chosen, which is most convenient for carrying out passenger transportation in the republic. The rolling stock is equipped with passive safety systems (crash system), microclimate provision, information support, as well as environmentally friendly toilet complexes, conditions for travel of passengers with disabilities, other modern technical solutions in the field of comfort and safety. There is free Wi-Fi in the train. From 4 and from 8 to 11 March travel will be free. After that, the cost of one ticket in one direction will be 2.5 thousand drams. The remaining daily flights Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan are still serviced by the old rolling stock.
