ArmInfo. Armenia exported 285,000 carats of diamonds in 2017 for a total of $ 96.1 million. In terms of weight, the annual growth was 68.2%, with a decrease in customs value by 8.2%. According to the RA Customs Service, diamonds are exported mainly from Armenia to the UAE (47.9%), Russia (24.5%), Belgium (14.3%), as well as to the USA, Switzerland and Canada.
According to customs data, a positive trend was recorded for the import of products of the lapidary industry, where in quantitative terms the volumes of supplies increased by 23.7%. So, for the reporting year 516.9 thousand carats of rough diamonds were imported to the republic, worth $ 150.8 million (with annual growth of 16%). Primarily, rough diamonds are imported to Armenia from the UAE (60%), and in small amounts from Belgium (9%), India (6.7%), Canada (6.3%), Russia (6%), Switzerland (5, 6%), South Africa (1.6%) and Thailand (1.5%).
As a comparison, in 2016 Armenia increased its polished exports by 77.9%, against a decline of 40.3% in 2015. At the same time, imports in quantitative terms increased by 72.6% in 2016, against a 30% decline in 2015. The exports were dominated by Russia (44.3%), the United Arab Emirates (17%), Belgium (13.1%) and Switzerland (10.7%), and imports - the UAE (44.8%), Belgium (16.2% %), Russia (12.9%), India (9.5%).
